Papa John’s CEO John Schnatter Stepping Down Weeks After Controversial NFL Comments

Weeks ago Papa John’s founder John Schnatter made comments about how the NFL national anthem protests were hurting his business. According to AJC, Schnatter will step down as CEO. In two months he will be replaces as Chief Operating Officer Steve Ritchie.

Schnatter will still remain chairman of the board. Reports say that Schnatter owns $9.5 million shares of Papa John’s International Inc. When the announcement was made Ritchie declined to say if the NFL comments made Schnatter step down.
Instead he said it’s, “the right time to make this change.” Schnatter founded the famous pizza company three decades ago. Since then it has grown to over 14,000 locations. When Ritchie takes over he wants to make ordering Papa John’s pizza easier from everywhere.
