Serena Williams was two matches away from making history as the first woman to win all of the tennis grand slams in one calendar year since 1988. Steffi Graf was the last female player to accomplish this impressive feat.

Italian player Roberta Vinci was the player to end Serena’s run during a competitive match: 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Serena complained of being tired during a press conference and expressed her desire to rest, so perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised about the loss during the very taxing U.S. Open Tournament.

Alleged boyfriend Drake was court side supporting Serena, and so were several celebrities.

Even though Serena didn’t reach her goal, she has already been congratulated by people like First Lady Michelle Obama on her extremely impressive accomplishments.

We, too are proud of you, Serena!
