LisaRaye McCoy is exploring just how far the damage caused by colorism really reaches in her upcoming movie “Skinned.”
The “Single Ladies” star has slipped into the director’s chair for the film, which follows a woman named Jolie as she pays the ultimate cost to lighten her skin. As a young girl, Jolie was ridiculed for her cocoa complexion, constantly taunted by the rhetoric that light skin is what’s hot.

In an attempt to fit the standard, Jolie drastically bleaches her skin in an attempt to be more attractive to guys. While her decision gets her a job as a model and the man of her dreams, it could cost her a chance to have a family. Worse yet, her decision to lighten her skin could kill her!

Before she passes, though, Jolie must find out what motivated her to go to such drastic measures to change herself and get to the root of her insecurities.
With a script like this LisaRaye is clearly going for a hard-hitting directorial debut. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until next year to see how the story ends for Jolie, but this looks like it will be worth a watch.
