A white high school football player was forced to issue and apology after a Snapchat went viral. Why? Because of the caption that referred to a Black cheerleader at his school as the ‘n’ word.
Tyler Tackett, a student at Western High School in Russiaville, Ind., posted a Snapchat showing him, a fellow student and two cheerleaders. Apparently, Tackett felt some kind of way standing next to the black cheerleader and called her the n-word.

Soon after the photo went viral, Rick Davis, the school’s principal, denounced the image on Twitter and expressed disappointment:
Highly offended & disgusted by a hateful post by 1 of our students. Totally unacceptable & it will be addressed. Deepest apologies to all.

Tackett then posted an “apology” to his Instagram account that stated:
Today I said something unforgivable and what was said can’t be taken back. I know that I have hurt people and I know that I need to be held accountable for what I have done. I would like to apologize to all of Western School Corporation and all of the students and faculty. I know that I have made all of you ashamed. I would like to apologize to the Colts as well, I realize that I have offended your program. I would like to apologize to my family for saying this because I was raised better and I would like to apologize to everyone that I have offended. I realize what I have said is awful and I truly feel sorry from the bottom of my heart and I know that no amount of apologizing will make up for it. I will accept any consequence for my actions.
Many commenters on both social media sites wanted to know what actions the school was taking and derided both the principal and student for seeming as though they were forced into an apology. As many observers noted, the young woman in question did not seem as though she received any apology. However a fellow student had their own way of handling the situation as seen in another tweet:

What do you think? Should the school suspend or expel Tackett or is this a teaching moment for the young man and the community?
