Instead of model Aamito Stacie Lagum (pictured) getting praise for her work at New York Fashion Week or her stunning beauty – she’s, well her lips, are being disparaged by online trolls who are posting racist comments on MAC Cosmetics Instagram page.

On Thursday, the beauty giant posted a close-up image of Lagum’s lips in their Royal Romance lip color on their Instagram page:

According to Buzzfeed, the image was quickly inundated with racist comments including:

“Black women will never be as beautiful as white women. The only argument blacks have is they have more melanin like that matters [crying emoji]. Yes white women can get injections and when they do, they are basically flawless. You don’t have any thing [sic] over them anymore and thats [sic] why you get so pissed off. Keep lying to yourselves thinking your dark asses look better. [crying emojis]. dont [sic] even come at me with the ‘all white features were first started by blacks’ Even if that was true, WHERE THEY AT THO? [100 emoji] Keep projecting your jealousy on white women though, Id [sic] rather be a cracker with injections than look like the majority of you oily yet ashy at the same time people. Acting like you don’t bleach your skins, get nosejobs, get contacts, and dye your hair blonde. [crying emoji, wave emoji].”

Unfortunately, this is only one example of the many negative comments that have been posted underneath the image.

MAC  released a statement to Buzzfeed regarding the situation, it reads:

M·A·C stands for and respects All Ages, All Races, All Sexes. We do not tolerate any abusive comments in our community.

The image remains up on the Instagram page and Lagum has responded to the controversy:

Also, many users have gone on the page to post positive messages. Some include:

Def buying this colour, as long as they look as good on my lips as hers

What beautiful lips!!! Jealous I don’t have some like those !!! So stunning

Her lips are larger, mine are smaller. We’re all different and beautiful. Now with that said, am I the only one who noticed her lips form a perfect heart? ❤

What do you think about the controversy? Will we ever be able to bury racism?
