19-year-old Christian Taylor, a student and college football player at Angelo State University in Texas, was shot dead after officers responded to a burglary call. Accused of being the guy behind the crime, unarmed Christian was confronted by police, when an altercation ensued, and one officer – 49-year-old Brad Miller, who graduated from the police academy in March – “discharged his weapon and struck the suspect.”
From Complex:
The man, who police said was unarmed, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as Christian Taylor, a student and football player at Angelo State University.
Christian’s family maintains that he was a “good” and “talented” young man:
Member’s of Taylor’s family aren’t buying the burglary accusations. From the Star-Telegram:
Clyde Fuller, Taylor’s great uncle, described his great nephew as a good man and talented football player who was about to return to college. He said he has many unanswered questions and doesn’t believe Taylor was burglarizing the dealership as police suspected.
“He was a good kid. I don’t see him stealing no car or nothing like that,” Fuller said.
“I think something is going on that somebody is lying about,” Fuller said. “…They say he’s burglarizing the place by running up in there? Nuh-uh. Something doesn’t sound right.”
Police stated that the fatal shooting is under both a criminal and administrative investigation. We pray for Christian’s loved ones during this difficult time.
