Kendrick Lamar jolted hip-hop and it’s mic men when he called out rap’s heavyweights on Big Sean’s “Control.” Many emcees have responded, rebutting the ether filled track their own versions and responses while some lyricists, like Drake, have yet to respond…until now. Drizzy’s “Nothing Was the Same” campaign landed him on the cover of this month’s Billboard magazine where the OVO artist commented on being called out, finding happiness and the forthcoming album that has every on edge waiting for its release.

Here’s some notable qoutables from the interview:

Details on the new album:

“There’s a lot less sort of ambient ballad moments on this album where I’m searching or longing for something,” Drake says of Nothing Was the Same. “That sentiment is gone. Now I’m just kind of like, ‘You know, I’m 26, I don’t know what the fuck else I could be doing better than this. I feel incredible about how I’m able to support my family and friends and how supportive my family and friends have been of me.’

Kanye West:

“Me and ’Ye just fell into this thing where we hadn’t actually talked to each other in so long that all this stuff got built up. Sometimes you just have to find the opportunity to tell someone that you really like and respect them. After that, everything can move forward.” Though they haven’t worked together since his first album in 2010, Drake says he’s looking forward to getting in the studio with West sooner rather than later. “Hopefully we give the world what they want, because I know they want it,” he says. “I know me and ’Ye could do some crazy shit together.”

Drake’s thoughts on Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s “Control”:

“It just sounded like an ambitious thought to me. That’s all it was. I know good and well that Kendrick’s not murdering me, at all, in any platform. So when that day presents itself, I guess we can revisit the topic.”
