If sports power couples like A’ja Wilson and Bam Adebayo or Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird weren’t enough, there’s reportedly a new one brewing.
This weekend at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett hit the orange carpet with Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Chloe Kim by his side.
While at the event in Tokyo, Garrett stood off to the side while Kim did a rapid-fire “this or that” interview and smiled when she talked about romance.
Both are big fans of the Japanese-born comics, with Garrett telling Crunchyroll in 2019 —a hub for all things anime streaming and beyond—that his favorite anime is Dragon Ball Z and explaining how it piqued his interest as a kid.
“Honestly, when I was a kid, I didn’t really notice a difference between cartoons and anime,” he said. “Most of the ones I watched came on late during Adult Swim hours. Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Inuyasha, and Yu Yu Hakusho all came on during that hour, and then Naruto came on during the day a couple of years later. I really connected with those anime.”
Kim is fresh from winning her third halfpipe world title at the FIS Snowboard World Championships in Switzerland, which secured her ticket to the 2026 Olympics in Italy. Prior to that, in January, she won her eighth X Games gold medal in the halfpipe, tying Shaun White’s record.
After being too young to compete in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, she became a household name at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games, where she was the youngest woman ever to win gold in the halfpipe competition. She was just 17, and then she repeated at the 2022 Beijing games.
Garrett also has a lot to celebrate after he became the richest non-quarterback in league history in March. It came shortly after he requested a trade, ultimately signing a four-year extension with the Browns that pays him $40 million per year and includes $123.5 million in guaranteed money.
