Dallas, TX, June 21, 2012–The Rickey Smiley Morning Show, one of the nation’s fastest growing morning shows now heard in over 55 markets, has signed a brand new mega deal with Radio One.
In an entertainment triple play, Rickey Smiley and his team were simultaneously picked up by FOX TV’s Dish Nation and Smiley partnered with TV One to develop a new sitcom for the network.
Rickey Smiley and veteran TV producer/director Roger Bobb have teamed up to create, The Rickey Smiley Show, currently in production in Atlanta GA, and will debut this fall on TV One as a weekly sitcom. The show will feature Smiley as himself as he manages the challenges of being a national radio host and comedian along with the joys and pain of being a single parent to three children.
Radio One CEO and TV One Chairman Alfred Liggins remarked, “Radio One and TV One are huge believers in investing in quality content. Rickey Smiley represents a significant multi-media talent and our enhanced backing and long-term investment in his brand represents a commitment we believe is core to our companies’ future strategy. Rickey Smiley is not only a current star, but he is one of the fastest growing entertainment brands in any media today.”
Following the success of television magazines such as TMZ, Dish Nation will feature The Rickey Smiley Morning Show cast along with (Scott & Todd 95.5/WPLJ-FM in New York, Blaine & Allyson 96.3/WDVD-FM in Detroit, and two other shows from Los Angeles and Dallas to be announced) giving their comedic spin on daily news, headlines and pop culture. Dish Nation will premiere this fall on September 10th on most FOX affiliates.
In addition to the radio and TV shows, Smiley just completed the Laugh and Shout Experience tour, which headlined Rickey Smiley as Minister Joe Willie joined by the Deuteronomaires along with Gospel artists Earnest Pugh, Zacardi Cortez and Darlene McCoy. Look for Rickey Smiley and the crew back on the road in the fall.
Asked about being one of the busiest and most successful brands in urban media, Smiley says “I love what I do and it starts with radio and I just enjoy getting up every day and making people laugh and giving them a little substance on top of that. Now to expand this to television with both FOX and TV-ONE, I count my blessings and I am just going to work harder than ever as I truly love what I do and want to make all my distribution partners very successful.”
Syndication One President Gary Bernstein adds, “When you combine Rickey’s hugely successful radio brand with these two massive TV properties, it is going to be truly groundbreaking tracking the growth when millions of new fans catch on to Rickey.”
