The prospect of an N.W.A. biopic is quickly becoming a reality. Former member and driving force behind the film, Ice Cube, gave a few minor updates on the project while doing promo for his latest comedy, 21 Jump Street. According to the West Coast legend, the script for the N.W.A. film is almost done. They’ve also begun searching for the perfect director. That director could possibly be John Singleton.
While speaking with MTV News, evaded inquiries as to whether the Baby Boy director would be the right fit for the film. “We’re interviewing a lot of directors. I don’t want to say ’yay’ or ‘nay,’ but we’re interviewing directors,” Ice Cube responded. “So, the movie’s in progress in this high speed, it’s coming along. Hopefully, we’ll get it done.”
Cube also talked about the idea of his son, Doughboy playing him in the N.W.A. movie. Ice Cube isn’t going to give his son the role that easy, though he would love for it to happen. The rapper answered, “That’s a dream come true, but we’re going to find the best actor to do the job,” said Cube. “You gotta find the best people to do the role.”
After hearing Ice Cube share those minor tidbits of information, are you excited to see an N.W.A. film? Would John Singleton do N.W.A’s story justice? Sound off in the comments.
