“I Will Follow” Director Relaunches AFFRM Website
The second renaissance of black cinema continues in 2012, as director Ava DuVernay unveiled the new and improved website for the African American Film Release Movement (AFFRM). AFFRM, which celebrates fresh new voices in film, empowers and fosters new black indie talent and provide more truthful and contemporary images of the African-American community.
AFFRM’s first release was DuVernay’s 2011 directorial debut, I Will Follow, which opened to both audience and critical acclaim. Her second feature Middle of Nowhere, premiered at Sundance and DuVernay made history as the first African-American woman to win the the US Directing Award: Dramatic.
AFFRM’s third release, Restless City opens in theater April 27th, and tells the story of an African immigrant living on the fringes of New York City.
