WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Former President Donald Trump has been elected the 47th president of the United States.
In the wee hours Wednesday morning, the final domino fell as media outlets called the election in Wisconsin for Trump, giving him 277 electoral votes and enough to secure election as president. He defeated Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris.
At the time of this article’s publishing the races in Nevada, Alaska, Arizona, and Michigan remain uncalled.
He says America is about to enter a “golden age.” Speaking before a crowd of roaring supporters in West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump promised to help the country heal.
He said he’d fight for the people and vowed to deliver a prosperous America. Vice President Kamala Harris will speak to crowds this morning.
Trump’s victory was brought on by key victories in the battleground states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. He becomes the second president in history to be elected to two non-consecutive terms. Grover Cleveland was the other back in the late 1800s.
Many are already reacting to Trump’s re-election. Elon Musk says Trump has been given a “crystal clear mandate” by the American people. In a series of posts overnight on X, the Tesla billionaire celebrated Trump’s projected victory and wrote, “The future is gonna be fantastic.”
Trump’s win is a cherry on top of what was an astounding night for Republicans. The GOP won back control of the U.S. Senate. Senate races in the nation’s midsection helped tip the balance of power. The GOP needed to flip only two seats while holding the rest. Among the big winners is Ohio Republican Bernie Moreno over Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown.
The U.S House still remains up for grabs with Republicans leading at the moment with several races still having yet to be called to determine who will have control of the lower chamber of Congress.
