Manigault Newman gained recognition as a standout contestant on the first season of The Apprentice in 2004, earning Trump’s favor along the way. Prior to that, she had worked for Vice President Al Gore during the Clinton administration in the 1990s. In 2017, she joined the Trump administration as the director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison. Her 2018 memoir, Unhinged, drew from her experiences in the Trump White House and painted a critical picture of Trump, labeling him as racist and cognitively impaired.

In a recent interview with Variety, Manigault Newman expressed her belief that Trump would find it particularly humiliating to lose to Harris in the upcoming presidential election. She stated, “He reserves his most vitriolic attacks for women of color. To lose to a woman of color would be devastating to his ego.”

She also shared concerns about a potential second Trump administration, describing it as potentially more extreme than the first. Reflecting on the selection of Mike Pence as Trump’s running mate in 2016, she noted that there was a belief that Pence would serve as a moderating influence. However, she pointed out, “Instead, Donald Trump hijacked the party and pushed out individuals who would be able to modulate his behavior.”

In her endorsement of Harris, she asserted, “I have no reservation in— I guess I’m saying this for the first time—completely, 100 percent endorsing Kamala Harris for President.” She emphasized her worries that if Trump were to win again, he would empower the most extreme elements of his circle.

Trump’s campaign previously sued Manigault Newman over the publication of Unhinged, claiming it violated a non-disclosure agreement. Although Trump lost the case in September 2021, the aftermath led to disputes between both sides regarding the settlement’s size.
