Despite a decline in ratings throughout the first half of season 2, Taraji P. Henson‘s Golden Globe win and the show’s Grammy nomination, secured Empire a third season.

The FOX soap-opera is currently on a winter hiatus but the network just released a new promo to get fans excited for the show’s return.
In the 30-second clip titled, “Revenge Is Coming,” we see Lucious tell Hakeem, “The next time I see you, I’m going to kill you.” Well not so fast Papa Lyon! In a “dis-tew-much moment” that had us clutching our pearls, we see Hakeem put a gun to Lucious’ head!
It wouldn’t be Empire without sex, drugs and Rock & Roll! Lucious is taking no prisoners this time around. There’s a scene where police raid his office and Lucious is ready to retaliate with an AK-47 (rifle!) Didn’t he just get out of jail? What would make him want to risk his freedom again?
We also see an ode to season 1 when Cookie beat Jamal with a broom stick! While holding what appears to be either a pool stick or a broom stick, she tells her youngest son, “You’re about to get it!”
While Empire is never short on drama, many fans previously complained that the show began to lack a cohesive storyline. We’re rooting for Empire to get its fire back when it premieres on Wednesday, March 30th!
Beauties, let us know if you’ll be watching the rest of the second season.
