Mother’s Boyfriend Found Guilty In Death Of Adrian Peterson’s Two-Year-Old Son
A jury found Joseph Patterson guilty in the death of NFL running back Adrian Peterson‘s two-year-old son, ESPN reports.
A South Dakota jury deliberated for over five hours before reaching their verdict, the site writes. Tyrese Robert Ruffin died in October 2013 in the home of Patterson and Peterson’s former girlfriend, Ashley Ann Doohen. Autopsy results showed the toddler sustained trauma to his head, causing bleeding in his brain.
Patterson was found guilty of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and aggravated battery.
The 29-year-old’s defense claimed the child choked on a fruit snack and a doctor testified to confirm he had injuries consistent with CPR attempts.
ESPN reports:
“The newspaper reported the verdict was met with outrage from Patterson’s family and supporters, while Ruffin’s mother and her family hugged and cried.
Deputy Attorney General Bob Mayer said after the verdict: ‘We couldn’t be more excited and thrilled for Tyrese. He finally gets the justice he deserved.’”
With one of his charges resulting in a mandatory life sentence, Patterson will remain at Minnehaha County jail until his sentencing. Reports suggest it will be scheduled within the next two months.
Peterson found out he was Tyrese’s father just two months before his death. He first met the boy a day before his death.
