Authorities in Ferguson, Missouri, are bracing themselves for whatever is going to happen after a grand jury announces its decision in Darren Wilson’s case.
The St. Louis County Police Department is predicting trouble if the grand jury opts not to indict Darren in Michael Brown’s shooting death, according to the Associated Press. To get ready for the prospective fire storm, cops have been stocking up on riot gear such as tear gas, plastic handcuffs and less-lethal ammunition.
With a decision expected sometime in November, the public’s outlook on Darren’s verdict after information from the grand jury has been leaked is pretty bleak. Supposedly, it seems to indicate that the disgraced officer will not be formally charged in Michael’s death. If those suspicions are proven right, there could be a lot chaos for Ferguson police to manage.
One Ferguson protestor told The Huffington Post earlier this month, “It’s going to be a war because they’re not going to indict him.”
County police have already poured about $172,000 into dealing with disgruntled citizens as they rioted in the streets following Michael’s shooting in August.
For that price, The Guardian reports that they’ve scooped up 650 tear gas grenades, countless bean bag round, smoke canisters and multiple “hornets’ nests.” The crowd control device explodes in rubber bullets and a chemical agent when it goes off. That sum also includes about $50,000 set aside to fix damaged police vehicles; another $77,000 was spent on protective gear for authorities.
