According to The Huffington Post, right after announcing that 20th Century Fox would be bringing the highly anticipated “Independence Day 2″ sequel to big screens on July 3, 2015, it was then announced that the movie would be made without the beloved star of the original flick Will Smith. The movie that brought Will Smith to the position of summer blockbuster king will soldier on without him and ironically it’s because he is now the king of the summer blockbusters.

Said director Roland Emmerich,

“Will Smith can not come back because he’s too expensive, but he’d also be too much of a marquee name. It would be too much.”

Bill Pullman, who played the President Of The United States in the first “Independence Day,” has let it be known that he is in the new sequel.

Emmerich has not spoken on what actors from the original alien fighting story have been approached to join the next movie however  he did hint that several of the movie’s primary characters have been written into the sequel’s screenplay.

But fans need not worry about Smith as he has several possible sequels in his midst!  He’s been linked recently to other blockbuster sequels/prequels, including “Bad Boys 3,”“Hancock 2,” and I Am Legend 2.” So there is still that to look forward to.

However, we are intrigued as to how the next version of this movie is going to work without Will. Guess we will just have to wait and see! 2015 is a long ways away from now so they have plenty of time to work on it and get right. They also have a long time to raise the money in order to get Will Smith on board! Just sayin!
