Police in San Diego would like to have a word with Kobe Bryant.

At issue is an allegation that the Lakers star grabbed a man’s cellphone during a church service Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Times and other news media.

Bryant and his wife Vanessa were attending services at the St. Therese of Carmel Church when Bryant apparently became concerned the couple was being photographed.

Police told the Times that Bryant may have grabbed the phone during a confrontation at the back of the church and checked for photos before handing it back.

10News.com in San Diego reported that the as-yet unidentified man later went to a hospital, complaining of minor wrist pain.

“We’re attempting to interview all the (people involved),” said a San Diego police spokesman.

UPDATE at 7:20 ET: Attorney Mark Campbell of Loeb and Loeb LLP, has issued a statement on behalf of Bryant. It says: “Mr. Bryant is aware of the baseless allegations asserted against him, and is prepared to defend against them fully.”
