Nicki Minaj and SZA found themselves in the middle of an unexpected social media feud this week. It started on Tuesday, July 15, when SZA posted a tweet that read: “Mercury retrograde .. don’t take the bait lol silly goose.”

It seemed harmless, but Nicki Minaj wasn’t amused. Just before the tweet, she had already been posting about Terrence “Punch” Henderson — the president of SZA’s label, Top Dawg Entertainment — accusing him of online bullying in the past. Nicki posted, “Y’all remember that man from TDE who kept bullying me on Twitter for no reason?” and sarcastically nicknamed him “Minus 30 million.”

Minaj seemed to believe SZA’s tweet was connected and responded directly, writing, “Go draw your freckles back on bookie,” and then added more intense comments, including saying SZA was “sounding like a f***ing dead dog.”

SZA quickly cleared the air, explaining that she had just finished performing and was making a general statement about astrology — not about anyone specific. “I wasn’t even talking about or to anyone,” she wrote, adding that once people started tagging her, she felt attacked. “YES I’M MAD NOW,” she wrote in all caps.

Despite the tension, SZA remained focused on her tour with Kendrick Lamar and pointed out that she’s currently playing to sold-out stadiums. When a commenter tried to downplay her success by saying she’s just a co-headliner, SZA reminded everyone of the numbers: her 2023 SOS Tour grossed over $95 million and her 2024 shows have already earned over $40 million.

Minaj, meanwhile, kept up her posts, tying the situation to her ongoing criticism of Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez. She’s been sharing hashtags like #JusticeForDemoree — a reference to Perez’s daughter’s recent lawsuit claiming she was wrongly institutionalized.

At one point, Nicki even said, “Shutup ugly,” and admitted she might delete the post later if SZA wasn’t actually talking about her.

Both artists seem to be moving forward — SZA with her European shows and Minaj with her fan interactions and legal commentary — but the dust from their online clash is still settling.
