Beyoncé is taking over Atlanta this week, but fans attending her Cowboy Carter Tour shows at Mercedes-Benz Stadium may notice something missing from the venue’s usual spectacle — the sky. Officials have confirmed that for all four nights of her Atlanta stop — July 10, 11, 13, and 14 — the stadium roof will remain closed.

Along with that, the massive 360-degree Halo Board that wraps around the ceiling will be powered down, creating a more intimate and controlled environment for the pop icon’s latest creative vision. The changes were reportedly made at Beyoncé’s request and are part of a carefully curated concert experience.

While some fans are a bit disappointed by the decision — especially those hoping for the full indoor-outdoor experience the stadium is known for — most are simply excited that the Queen Bey is in town. Others speculate the changes might be related to a recent technical hiccup in Houston. During a performance of “16 Carriages” on June 28, a flying car prop began to tilt mid-air. Beyoncé was safely lowered to the stage, and the show went on without interruption. It’s unclear whether that same prop will be used in Atlanta, but the decision to close the roof could be a precautionary measure.

Regardless of the setup, the city has already embraced “Beyoncé Week” in full force. Atlanta is buzzing with themed events — from Cowboy Carter tea parties to line dancing socials — and local businesses are even offering specialty cocktails and pop-up celebrations in honor of the tour.

The excitement is spilling over onto social media, too. One fan on X (formerly Twitter) posted, “Atlanta’s traffic is about to be crazy all week,” noting that Beyoncé’s shows line up with other major events in the city, including MLB All-Star Weekend and a WWE event. Others are making bold demands, like hoping for surprise guests — “Beyoncé better bring out Crime Mob in Atlanta,” one tweet declared.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium itself is hyped, posting “WORLD STOP. Atlanta… It’s Beyoncé week” with a photo of the star, followed by lyrics from her hit “Freakum Dress” and tips for concertgoers.

Fans with VIP packages will be receiving early entry details via email, while general doors are set to open at 7 p.m. and the show is expected to begin around 8 p.m.

Some are holding out hope for a special moment during the July 11 show, given its connection to Beyoncé’s viral anthem “7/11.” With her track record, a surprise guest or memorable performance isn’t out of the question.

Though the Halo Board won’t be lighting up and the open roof views will have to wait, Beyoncé’s Atlanta takeover is shaping up to be a celebration fans won’t soon forget.
