Kandi Burruss Opens Up About Aunt Bertha’s Alzheimer’s Diagnosis
Kandi Burruss is speaking out about a deeply personal and emotional chapter in her life. During a recent interview on Amazon Live, the singer and former Real Housewives of Atlanta star shared that her beloved aunt Bertha Jones has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Burruss, 49, admitted it’s been difficult to even talk about. “We’re having a really hard time because my Aunt Bertha has Alzheimer’s,” she said, visibly emotional. “If anyone’s ever dealt with somebody in your family going through that, and it gets worse, it’s not easy… So, it’s a time.”

Rather than go further into the topic, Burruss gently moved on, explaining she didn’t want to get too emotional during the live broadcast.
Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disease that gradually impacts memory, behavior, and the ability to carry out daily tasks. It can be incredibly challenging for both those diagnosed and their loved ones.

Aunt Bertha isn’t just family—she’s also part of the famous “Old Lady Gang,” a trio that includes Burruss’ mother, Mama Joyce Jones, and her other aunt, Nora Wilco. The women became fan favorites during their appearances on RHOA and the Bravo spinoff Kandi & the Gang, which followed the drama and fun inside Burruss’ popular Atlanta restaurant, Old Lady Gang.
In fact, Burruss named the restaurant after the three women, celebrating their legacy with a Southern menu inspired by their own recipes. Their strong personalities and loving banter helped the show become a hit, and Aunt Bertha stood out for her unfiltered, hilarious remarks and warm presence.
Burruss has also honored her aunt in more personal ways. She surprised Bertha with a home makeover during season 2 of Secret Celebrity Renovation, showing just how much her family means to her.
