‘Diarra From Detroit’ Announces Season 2 Renewal At BET+

Diarra and her Detroit crew are coming back. BET made the announcement this week that Diarra From Detroit, the critically acclaimed BET+ show will return to the streamer after months of uncertainty about its future.
Show creator Diarra Kilpatrick said in a press release, “We’re excited to be back and grateful for the opportunity to take viewers on another very wild, very Detroit adventure.”
Diarra From Detroit debuted on BET+ on March 21, 2024. The eight-episode series quickly gained a following for its fresh take on the female crime-solving genre popularized by shows like Murder She Wrote.
Kilpatrick plays Detroit teacher Diarra Brickland, who turns detective when she’s ghosted by a man she meets on a dating app. The ensemble cast includes Morris Chestnut in a recurring role as Diarra’s estranged husband, Francois “Swa” Brickland. Phylicia Rashad, former Detroit Piston John Salley, and Detroit rapper Kash Doll made guest appearances. Cast members Bryan Terrell Clark, DomiNque Perry and Jon Chaffin will return.
Backed by executive producer Kenya Barris, Diarra From Detroit became one of 2024’s buzziest new dramedies on the strength of its storytelling and cast. Kilpatrick (who is indeed related to former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick) hinted that the show would return in recent red carpet appearances, but now BET+ has officially renewed it.
“It has been incredible watching fans and critics embrace this show in the way that they have and we’re so excited to be back for more,” Barris said. “Last season proved just how wildly talented Diarra Kilpatrick is and I, for one, can’t wait for everyone to see what her and the team have in store this time around.”
There’s still time to catch up on Season 1, as there has been no release date set. Watch the first season trailer below.
