Congressman Al Green has announced plans to file articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, following a dramatic exchange during the president’s address to Congress. Green, who was escorted out of the chamber for interrupting Trump’s speech, is pushing back after what he calls the president’s “incivility” and divisive rhetoric.

The confrontation occurred when Trump made controversial remarks, including calling Democrats “lunatics” and taking a jab at Senator Elizabeth Warren. While most of his colleagues remained silent, Green stood up, disputing Trump’s claim of a “mandate.” His vocal disagreement led to him being escorted out of the room by security.

In an interview with TMZ Live, Green explained that his actions were not premeditated but came from a deep sense of frustration, particularly over Trump’s stance on Medicaid. “I had to stand up for Medicaid and the people who rely on it,” Green shared. His emotional outburst resulted in a 224-198 House vote to censure him, with 10 Democrats joining Republicans in the vote, further highlighting the division within the Democratic Party.

Despite the censure, Green is not backing down. He revealed plans to file articles of impeachment against Trump, accusing the president of incivility and claiming that Trump has been taking advantage of the Democratic Party’s more restrained approach. “The president takes advantage of our civil nature,” Green said, noting how Trump’s combative tone contrasted with the relatively quiet demeanor of Democrats during the speech. Green believes it’s time for Democrats to push back with what he calls “righteous incivility,” saying that the president’s behavior demands a response.

Though Green did not specify when he would file the articles of impeachment, his announcement has already stirred reactions from within his own party. Some, like Senator John Fetterman, criticized the disruption, calling it “unhinged petulance” that could work in Trump’s favor by making him appear more composed.

This wouldn’t be Trump’s first time facing impeachment. He was impeached twice during his first term—once over the Ukraine scandal and again after the Capitol riots—but was acquitted both times by the Senate. Green remains optimistic that a third attempt at impeachment may be more successful, especially as tensions between Trump and Democrats continue to escalate.

The announcement has added fuel to the ongoing political firestorm, highlighting the deepening divisions in Congress and setting the stage for more intense battles ahead. Green’s efforts reflect the broader struggle within the Democratic Party to hold the president accountable while grappling with how best to respond to his combative leadership style.
