Kirk Franklin to be Honored With Black Music Icon Award

DFW’s own Kirk Franklin, known for hit gospel songs “Stomp”,” “Revolution,” and “Brighter Day,” will be honored with the award, which highlights Black music creators, on Jan. 30 during the fourth annual Recording Academy Honors.

Franklin, a 20-time Grammy Award winner, is recognized for redefining gospel music by combining it with R&B and hip-hop. He’s collaborated with the likes of Kanye West, Mary J. Blige, and Chance the Rapper
His musical talent has saved many lives and simply makes you feel good! His music has always conveyed a message of hope, faith, and encouragement.

As a native of Fort Worth, Franklin attended and graduated from Oscar Dean Wyatt High School, which is part of the Fort Worth Independent School District. As early as four, he picked up the piano, and by the time he was eleven, he was leading choirs.
Franklin’s first studio album, Kirk Franklin & The Family, broke new ground when it became the first gospel record to sell over a million copies and spend 100 weeks at the top of the Billboard Gospel charts.
