Despite time passing since the infamous Oscars slap, it seems Will Smith is still holding a grudge against Chris Rock. Many critics agree with Will, pointing out that Chris has never truly taken responsibility for the fallout and has refused to accept Will’s apology, which some believe is a form of karma for his actions.

On the flip side, Chris isn’t exactly thriving either. Reports suggest that he still deals with emotional scars from the incident, including symptoms of PTSD. While both men have likely healed in some ways, neither appears to have fully recovered from the event.

As for reconciliation, it doesn’t look promising. While some people believe a simple hug could go a long way toward healing both parties, sources say their egos are too big for that. After the slap, Chris received an outpouring of support, while Will faced widespread criticism for what many saw as an overreaction to a joke. Though some fans still supported Will, especially since he was defending his wife, an insider claims that Will will “never forgive Chris for ruining his life,” even though he has worked to rebuild over the past year.

While Will went on to win an Academy Award for his role in King Richard, the aftermath of the slap was far from kind. He was banned from the Oscars for ten years and resigned from the Academy. His apology to the organization came in his acceptance speech, but he did not address Chris directly until the following day in a video. However, even then, he reportedly still “hates the guy and his smug attitude.”

Will’s career has largely bounced back, but Chris has faced some struggles. In December 2024, the comedian walked off stage just minutes into a performance at Anthony Pratt’s holiday party. Chris has also continued to bring up the incident at his live shows, which some see as petty. An insider shares that, in Will’s view, Chris isn’t the victim here. “A lot of people would agree with Will and think what’s happening to Chris is karma for refusing to speak to Will or accept his apology.”
To make matters worse, Chris dismissed Will’s apology during a performance, telling the audience, “F–ck your hostage video,” implying that the apology was only issued because Will’s management team pushed for it.
