Sean “Diddy” Combs is seeking to have the names of his accusers disclosed as he prepares to defend himself in a high-profile sex-trafficking case, according to recent Manhattan federal court filings. Combs’ legal team argued in a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian that knowing the identities of the accusers is essential to properly prepare for his upcoming trial on May 5. The 54-year-old music mogul, who has pleaded not guilty, remains in jail while awaiting trial.

Combs faces multiple charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Prosecutors claim his alleged abuse spanned decades, with women coerced into participating in “freak-offs”—elaborate, orchestrated sex performances that Combs allegedly arranged, directed, and often recorded. The indictment also claims Combs used drugs, financial power, and control over the women’s careers to manipulate them.

In their request, Combs’ lawyers argue that his celebrity status has sparked a flood of anonymous accusations, leading to a “media circus” that threatens his right to a fair trial. They pointed out that six civil complaints were filed against Combs just this week, all from anonymous individuals. The attorney representing these suits claimed to represent 120 accusers, with thousands of calls received on a toll-free number within a day. Combs’ legal team insists these allegations, many of which they say have already been discredited, are baseless and part of a coordinated effort to damage his character.

“This case is unique due to the sheer number of allegations against Mr. Combs, driven by his celebrity status and the extensive media coverage,” his lawyers wrote, noting that many accusations have been “outright absurd.” They also referenced Cassie Ventura’s November 2023 lawsuit, in which she accused Combs of sexual abuse. Though that suit was settled the next day, it appears Ventura is referred to as “Victim-1” in the indictment.

Combs’ attorneys say the prosecution’s refusal to reveal the identities of the accusers leaves them guessing about which allegations are being used for the indictment. “Without clarity from the government, Mr. Combs has no way of knowing which allegations are being relied on,” they stated. The defense team stressed that, given the voluminous amount of evidence and the potential presence of consensual relationships, it would be difficult for Combs to determine which past sexual partners are now claiming coercion.

Prosecutors oppose the request, refusing to disclose the accusers’ names at this stage, but Combs’ legal team argues that the number of accusers and the time frame of the allegations make it essential for the identities to be revealed. The Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office has declined to comment on the case.
