Broadcasting live from the Cincinnati Music Festival, Rickey Smiley welcomed a special guest and headliner for the night, October London!

Reflecting on one of October’s standout tracks, “Mulholland Drive,” Rickey recalled how the song had such an impact that they had to stop the morning show just to play it again. October shared the backstory, revealing that the song was created during a session at Snoop Dogg’s studio. “Chaka Khan was there actually working with Snoop at the time, and she was like, ‘Oh, I would love to make a song with you.’ So I rushed back into the other room and started making that…in like 30 minutes,” October explained. Though Chaka couldn’t finish her part, the song became a hit.

Maria More couldn’t help but comment on October’s “humble flex” of working with such legends. October then talked about his new single with Boney James, “All I Want Is You,” highlighting how their collaboration was a dream come true, facilitated by mutual respect and admiration.

October confirmed the plans for a show titled “October Nights,” which will focus on his creative process rather than being a typical reality show.

“It’s really me creating, you know, in the process…kinda chilling, you know, in the living room or in my backyard,” he described.

A touching moment came when October spoke about his father, who was the Vice President for Comcast Cable. Despite wanting to work under his father, he was encouraged to pursue music. “He was like, no, I just think that music is what you should stay in,” October recounted, grateful for the guidance that led him to where he is today.

Excitement peaked when October confirmed his upcoming tour with Jazmine Sullivan and Maxwell, starting September 14th. Rickey and the team celebrated the news, highlighting the significance of sharing the stage with such acclaimed artists.

In a fun lightning round, October shared personal tidbits: his fear of drowning, his love for spending time with his son, and his unique combination of spaghetti and catfish as his favorite meal. He also revealed that his creative process involves candles and that the best advice he ever received was from Snoop Dogg: “Stay true to myself.”
