T-Boz’s Mentally Ill Cousin Fatally Shot By Police Officers

This weekend TLC singer T-Boz went on social media to mourn her cousin Eddie Russell. He was 25 and suffered from a mental illness. According to what T-Boz wrote on Instagram her cousin was shot between 17 and 20 times.

According to Essence, Russell was named as a suspect in an armed robbery. He allegedly robbed the First Mid-Illinois Bank and Trust just before the stand-off. Family members say that he suffered from a mental illness and officers shot him after they believed he was holding the same handgun that was used in the robbery.

Six officers that were involved with this incident were placed on leave. Currently the Illinois State Police are investigating the shooting and activists have protested peacefully. We will continue to keep T-Boz and her family in our prayers.
