800 black women in 2014 received permits and so far this year 1,400 have gotten a license to carry.
Founder of Trigger Happy Firearm Instruction, Marchelle Tigner said, “It’s important, especially for black women, to learn how to shoot. We need to learn how to defend ourselves.”
Black women might make up a small percentage of overall applicants, but they have the highest growth rate for obtaining the permit.
The founder of the National African American Gun Association, Philip Smith said, “A lot of black women are now going to the range, to the store buying a gun and then going to practice. It’s a definite trend that we’re seeing at our organization and also in general public.”
With each year the number will more than likely increase, but do you think the amount of black women buying guns and carrying permits will grow in other cities?
