Comedian Michael Che is standing behind the remarks he made about Boston being the “most racist city” that he has ever visited.

According to Mass Live, on Thursday the Saturday Night Live star told a group of people at Boston University that he received messages from individuals on social media who were livid about his statement, which was made during an episode of SNL.

In Boston, he said he responded on social media to one woman by urging her to “talk to your closest black friend and ask them to explain it to you.” He said the woman responded by answering, “Touche.”
Che, who often jokes about President Donald Trump on the NBC show, told the audience he never apologizes for language or controversial statements because he’s “just trying to be more presidential.”
According to WEEI-FM, Che made the comment about Boston when discussing the Super Bowl matchup between the Patriots and Falcons. He told “SNL” viewers, “I just want to relax, turn my brain off, and watch the blackest city in America beat the most racist city I’ve ever been to.”
Che is best known as the co-anchor of SNL’s “Weekend Update.”
