Officials say 50 are dead, and 53 are injured in a deadly domestic terrorist attack, CNN reports.
The nightmare unfolded at Pulse Night Club in Orlando, Florida around 2am when a gunman opened fire at the club. When officials learned of the shooting, the situation quickly turned into a hostage situation.
Police responded by breaking down the door using an armored vehicle to free the victims. Police then entered the building where they shot and killed the gunman.
Officials are calling the “well organized and well prepared,” attack an “act of domestic terror.” NY Daily News reports.
Orlando Police Chief John Mina said in a statement:
“It’s appears he was organized and well-prepared,” the chief said, adding that the shooter had an assault-type weapon, a handgun and “some type of (other) device on him.”
