While we think we remember seeing T.I. shed a tear in his film, ATL, we don’t necessarily consider him a serious actor. But he is on a quest to change that perception with his new role.
Tip is the latest addition to the new cast of Roots. The reboot is currently filming in Louisiana and will premiere in 2016.
Here are the details on the rapper’s role from Variety:
T.I. will appear in the final part of the four installments of the revival miniseries, playing Cyrus, a headstrong slave who fights for his freedom for the Union Army against Confederate Forces. His character will be featured prominently in the finale episode.
Questlove from The Roots (no pun intended) will serve as the executive music producer of the series.
T.I. joins a star-studded cast of the four-night, eight-hour miniseries including: Forest Whitaker, Anika Noni Rose, Derek Luke and Mekhi Phifer.
After a global search for the leading roles of “Kunta Kinte” and “Chicken George”, newcomers Malachi Kirby and Regé-Jean Page were personally cast by executive producer Will Packer and the original Kunta Kinte, LeVar Burton who will also serve as an executive producer.
Laurence Fishburne, will play Alex Haley, the author of the novel “Roots: The Saga of an American Family.”
Beauties, what do you think about the insurgence of slave related stories? (I.e 12 Years A Slave, The Birth Of A Nation and The Underground).
While Hollywood is busy whitewashing the history of Egypt, we would love to see a film or TV series where people of color are kings and queens.
