Music fans were excited when it was announced a biopic of Marvin Gaye‘s life would make it to the big screen. However, Gay’s family isn’t too thrilled and is in the process of getting production on the film stopped.

Marvin Gaye’s son, Marvin Jr., is especially upset with the film because his friend, who he’s known since elementary school is set to play his dad. While Gaye’s son is leading the charge in trying to get the film stopped, he is also begging his friend Lenny Kravitz not to take part in the movie, calling it “shameful.”
Kravitz signed on to play Marvin Gaye in the biopic with the working title of “Sexual Healing.” Reports have surfaced claiming the project will focus on Gaye’s life during the eighties. Marvin Jr.’s reaction was, “The producers and directors of this film are very wrong and shameful … [They’re] trying to do a film about a low period in his life. They don’t even know the whole story.”
According to Marvin Jr., he and other members of his family have sought out attorneys to get production on the film halted. He also has no idea if Lenny Kravitz knows the family is against the movie being made. He said, “I would hope [Lenny] doesn’t have any idea that we are against this film being done.”
Lenny Kravitz has yet to make any comments about the Marvin Gaye biopic.
