The veteran producer, known for his work with artists like Usher and Bow Wow, expressed that the backlash was actually a positive thing. He believes that Kendrick’s performance, which was bold and full of intense messages, only highlights the divide between mainstream expectations and real hip-hop. As Dupri puts it, “Real rap s**t ain’t never been for y’all,” referring to the fact that hip-hop has always been about authenticity and pushing boundaries, even if that means not appealing to the masses.
