In a recent podcast interview on The Trial of Diddy, Deon ‘D1’ Best, a former friend and associate of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, made explosive claims about the disgraced music mogul’s business practices. Best alleged that Combs used his mother Janice’s name to establish a criminal enterprise aimed at hiding money, concealing business deals, and taking publishing rights from artists.

According to Best, his company, Finish Line Entertainment, signed artists for Bad Boy projects, including the Notorious B.I.G.’s 1999 platinum album Born Again. However, Best claims his publishing rights were taken under Janice Combs’ name, depriving him and the artists of significant future earnings.

“These actions have caused financial hardship, emotional hardship…through what I feel was fraudulent and coercive activity,” Best shared, adding, “Janice Combs falls under those guidelines.” He reportedly plans to sue Janice Combs, asserting that she was directly involved in managing these deals.

Best isn’t alone in his accusations; artists like Mark Curry and rapper Ma$e have similarly criticized Diddy for alleged exploitation, with Ma$e even accusing Diddy’s mother of holding the rights in a viral 2020 rant. Best’s claims go beyond financial misconduct, touching on Combs’ connections and interactions with LA figures, including Death Row’s Suge Knight. Best recounted that he often provided protection for Diddy in Los Angeles, helping to ease tensions between him and Knight.

He also shared the chilling experience of being present with Biggie the night of his murder in 1997, hinting that he believed Biggie had plans to leave Bad Boy before his death. Expressing his dismay over recent events, including a video of Diddy attacking Cassie Ventura, Best remarked, “That video of Cassie broke my heart… It’s like, ‘Wow, you can kick on Cassie but you don’t want to stand up to Suge?’”
