Young Thug’s recent guilty plea and subsequent sentencing in the prolonged YSL RICO trial has stirred responses, notably from his father, Jeffrey Williams Sr., after his son received a 10-year ban from returning to his hometown of Metro Atlanta. Following the announcement of his non-negotiable plea deal on October 31, Williams Sr. expressed strong disapproval of the ban.

“To have a district attorney take that away from him—that isn’t a resident here…she’s from another state. To see her take a man away from where he’s from, to have to go live somewhere else, that’s offensive to me. I’m really [offended] by that,” he shared in an interview with 11Alive, voicing frustration over his son’s exclusion from the city they both call home.

As part of the plea deal conditions, Young Thug has also been warned by Judge Whitaker against contacting any co-defendants involved in the case. However, his lawyer, Brian Steel, requested an exemption for Thug’s brother, Quantavious Grier, and Gunna (Sergio Kitchens), a YSL label artist. “Mr. Williams and Mr. Kitchens are contractually obligated and they frequently perform music together,” Steel argued in court.

On the legal front, Thug’s plea involved admitting to six counts related to gang activity, with a no-contest plea to charges of leading a criminal street gang and conspiracy under the RICO Act. The state had initially sought a 45-year sentence, including 25 years of incarceration and 20 years on probation. Ultimately, Judge Paige Reese Whitaker handed down a 40-year sentence, with five years as time served and the remaining 15 years on probation, with 20 years in custody if he violates probation terms.
