Netflix has given a series order to an untitled family sitcom loosely inspired by the marriage of legendary Run DMC rapper and minister, Joseph Simmons, and Justine Simmons, according to Variety.
The scripted multi-camera series would follow a legendary rapper whose plans for slowing down are thwarted when his wife Justine decides to pursue her own dreams.
The pilot was originally sold to ABC last year, but despite it being well received, it was ultimately not ordered to series at the network. Instead, Amblin TV and ABC Studios took it to market with Netflix picking it up, Variety reports.
The project was created by Jeremy Bronson, the creator of ABC’s current comedy “The Mayor,” who also wrote the script.
Amblin TV will produce with ABC Signature. Andrew Reich will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank from Amblin TV will also executive produce along with the Simmons and Michael Lehman of Simmons Lehman Productions.
