NASA Names New Research Facility After “Hidden Figures” Engineer Katherine Johnson

“Hidden Figures” taught many about the black women who were engineers at NASA that helped with the launch of John Glenn. According to The Root, a new state-of-the-art research facility has been named after Katherine Johnson.

Johnson said about her getting the building named after her, “You want my honest answer? I think they’re crazy.” The building was dedicated on Sept. 22 along with Black Girls Code, Virginia Gov. Terry Mc Auliffe and the 21st Century Community Learning Center.
In 2015 she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Author and keynote speaker Margot Lee Shetterly said, “Telling your story has been an honor. Your work changed our history and your history has changed our future.” Congratulations to Katherine Johnson!
