'Best Man Holiday' Exceeds Expectations, Tops Friday Box Office
“The Best Man Holiday” Exceeds Expectations!
Universal’s The Best Man Holiday debuted with a strong $10.7 million its opening day, landing at the top of Friday’s box office!
According to reports, the sequel pushed Thor: The Dark World out of the number one spot and performed well ahead of projections. While critics estimated the Malcolm D. Lee-directed film to earn $20 million opening weekend, sources say the project is well on its way to finishing with $30 million in three days.
“The lesson here is once again said number will be an unquestionable triumph for the $17m comedy whether it ends up in first place or ends up in ninth place,” Forbes reports. “The number is the number, and The Best Man Holiday‘s opening weekend is terrific no matter where it lands on the charts.”
The R-rated romantic comedy features an all-Black cast of Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, Monica Calhoun and Melissa De Sousa. The first film, which opened to $9 million in 1999, “is credited with helping to usher in the era of aspirational African-American comedies.”
