You’re in love, you live together, you share your lives — so what’s the point of getting married?
That’s the world according to Eva Mendes, who recently told Gotham magazine, “my boyfriend and I think marriage is antiquated.” While she supports the idea of two people coming together, forming a bond, and all that lovey-dovey stuff, the actress also rejects the idea of having a ceremony.
What do you think? Does she have a point? After all, weddings can be really expensive, and there’s all sorts of things that money could go toward — especially if you’re a young couple starting out. Who needs hundreds of friends and family around just to make the commitment (that hopefully you’ve already been strictly adhering to) official once and for all?
That said, good weddings are a blast, and watching my friends in thoughtful ceremonies always makes me a little misty-eyed — so maybe Eva’s just missing out.
