When Wendy Williams returned to her talk show on Monday following three weeks off to rest and get her health in check, per her doctor’s orders, she thanked many people for their support during that time. The person who received the most appreciation was Wendy’s husband of 20 years, Kevin Hunter.

Their relationship may have been put under a spotlight over the last few months due to some unpleasant rumors about his extracurricular activities, but Wendy made it clear on her show that he was by her side, working harder than anyone to help her get better as she dealt with her hyperthyroidism and Graves’ disease.

“I have to really credit my family. My son Kevin and also my husband Kevin [Hunter], the love of my life,” she said in front of her audience. “I have been having bats swimming in my head since maybe July. Didn’t tell anybody because I figured well, it’s menopause…I have more important things to do. I have to miss this doctor’s appointment because there’s more important things to do…We put so many things ahead of ourselves and our health it’s ridiculous. So I want to thank my husband because I heard him talking to Dr. Oz on the phone. He got Dr. Oz on the phone! Dr. Oz is all up in the Hunter home! All involved. So Kevin, thank you for calling Dr. Oz and thank you so much for ushering me through wellness. Kevin, thank you so much.”

She talked further about being grateful for him, telling PEOPLE in the newest issue that he was more scared about what was going on with the 53-year-old than she was.

“My husband was extremely concerned,” she said. “He’s not just my husband, he’s my business partner, one of the executive producers on the show and he’s also my manager. He and I are glued at the hip.”

“He was with me every step,” she added, stating that he was by her side during all of her doctor’s appointments in New York City (the family, including son Kevin, Jr., all reside in New Jersey). “For him, seeing me go through all of this, it’s really been trying on him. I’ve been concerned about him. I’m like, ‘Don’t worry about me!’”

And while she initially wasn’t scared (she says she was more “resistant” than anything), she’s grateful that the doctors’ recommendations and help has aided her in feeling more like herself again.

“There’s a lot of smart women doing dumb things with their health and I fell into that category as well,” Wendy said. “I’m glad my situation was caught in a timely manner.”
