Denzel Washington added another award to his shelf on Saturday night when he took home the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor In A Motion Picture for his role in Fences. Washington took his time on stage to remind those in the audience, and those at home, how to find success in life.

“Ease is a much greater threat to progress than hardship,” the Oscar-winning actor said. “Without consistency there can be no commitment. Without commitment there can be no success.” He went on to remind us that without commitment and determination, many of the talented actors and actresses up for awards would not have found success at all, including himself. “If it was easy, there’d be no Kerry Washington, if it were easy, there’d b no Taraji P. Henson or Octavia Spencer…If it were easy, there would be no Denzel.”
