Your little siblings’ favorite emcee, Diggy Simmons, stopped by 99.1 KGGI in Riverside, California in promotion of his new album, Unexpected Arrival, and of course was asked the story behind the recently leaked track that features the rap legend’s son taking shots at J. Cole.

His response: “No big story behind it. It was really just that my sister a little over a year ago told me that he did this, that, and the third with her because they went to the same college, you know. [But] they didn’t even know each other like that so it wasn’t like that. She also told me that he subliminally talked about her in a song called ‘Purple Rain,’ which was also false. So you know it was just me sticking up my family.  That’s all it really was. I didn’t like leak it or anything like that, it got leaked.”

Diggy added that the song was a little over a year old and had initial intentions to leak it, though he later felt it wasn’t

“appropriate.” He doesn’t seem to mind it being out, adding that “family comes first.” As for whether or not he anticipates a response from J. Cole: “I don’t really care,” Diggy said.
