Chadwick Boseman Interview Get On Up.jpg

It’s about damn time Marvel started addressing its diversity issue. Marvel Studios officially confirmed today at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood that Chadwick Boseman will don the cowl of the “Black Panther,” when the film hits theaters on November 3, 2017.  The months of teases and maybes are finally over.

The Black Panther, whose real name is T’Challa, is the ruler of the fictional African nation of Wakanda, a technologically advanced and economically thriving civilization. Wakanda is also the main source of the mineral vibranium — the stuff that makes up Captain America’s shield. The Black Panther is Batman, minus the dead parents, but with the resources of an entire civilization at his disposal.

The plot of the actual movie is being kept under wraps, as usual, but it’s safe to assume that we’ll be treated to some sort of Black Panther showing early because his arch nemesis, Ulysses Klaw, played by motion-capture legend Andy Serkis, will appear in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Boseman himself is also reported to have a significant role in the upcoming Captain America sequel, “Civil War.”

Along with the “Black Panther” news, Marvel president Kevin Feige announced a slew of movies for Phases 3 and 4 of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. Check out the list of movies below. Marvel is rumored to have films planned as far ahead as the year 2022, so this is just the start.
